Ranking Structure
The West Michigan Karate Academy offers a systematic method of student development. As our students progress in the specialized skills of karate, they earn different colored belts. The belt is called an obi and these are used an indication of their time in class and are worn as a mark of achievement.
Mudansha students wear a colored belt levels are known as "Kyu".
Yudansha students wear a Black Belt, and these levels are called "Dan".
Our Instructors will guide the willing student through the intense training required to achieve the rank of "Black Belt." It will take a dedicated student approximately 3 to 5 years to reach black belt.
The West Michigan Karate Academy takes prides in the fact that our belts are never given, they are always earned.
